Challenge
Distributor EISS racked up more than $3500 in credit card processing fees each month. Each credit card processed was an exercise in inefficiency: cards were processed by hand using a dial-up connection to the merchant service provider, and customer service reps had to get up from their stations and walk to a central area to process credit card orders. With 85% of clients paying for orders with credit cards – in-store and online – EISS needed a better method.
Even though EISS spent over $1500 per month in broadband and long distance charges, their sales team had repeated problems connecting to the office network and placing orders due to slow bandwidth.
Solution
Kotori moved EISS to a new merchant service provider with a secure database for customer credit card information, resulting in lower non-swiped fees. Processing software was installed directly onto the customer service reps’ workstations. We also moved EISS to a new telecom provider that could deliver faster speeds and more reliable internet service.
Results
By changing merchant service providers, we reduced credit card processing fees by $550 per month. Similarly, moving to the new telecom provider saved EISS more than $700 per month while improving the sales staff’s network connectivity to the main office, which improved order efficacies.
Installing processing software on each desktop allowed customer service reps to process credit cards instantly, thus turning over calls more quickly. Call volume statistics proved that reps were able to handle more calls than ever before.
